SBK is a very cool little shop, with Mitch & the bike tech crew always toiling on someone’s ride in the back, and Vicki working the front of the shop to get her guests into the best kayak or onto the right bike for their tastes and budget. Just a block from the harbor in downtown Port Angeles, Vicki’s place keeps it down-home and friendly with everyone who stops by.
Two of the top-rated kayak instruction programs in the Northwest and beyond have stepped up to support the Hoedown. If you’ve been into any real paddlin’ shop, you’ve seen Wayne’s awesome videos – “ABCs of the Surf Zone” “Capsize Recoveries & Rescue Procedures”, and newer ones on bracing and essential strokes. Wayne came out of nowhere to beat all the sea kayakers in the deFuca Downwind, so at 60 years old he’s still not to be messed with!
Also our thanks go out to George and Barb Gronseth at Kayak Academy, who teach kayaking adventure skills first hand, taking students all over local waters and to Alaska every year. Their upcoming Greenland Week will feature skills, competition and entertainment in the mode of traditional Greenland paddling, from rolling competitions to ropes techniques, to private instruction from some amazingly talented kayakers.
